Divine Ikubor, professionally known as Rema, is a Nigerian singer, rapper and songwriter. In 2019, he signed a record deal into Mavin Record’s by Don Jazzy.
Rema rose to prominence with the release of the song “Iron Man“, which appeared on Barack Obama’s 2019 summer playlist.
The singer was born in the year 2000 into a Christian family in Benin City, Edo State, in the south southern part of Nigeria. Rema grew up in Benin City, Edo State, where he finished both his primary and secondary school education.
Rema signed a record deal with D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records in 2019.
According to the words of D’Prince; “When I first heard Rema’s work I knew this was an artist I wanted the entire world to listen to. His talent and artistry are so far beyond his years.”
According to the words of Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy; “Rema is a formidable young artist. With his skill and versatility, he has a unique place in the future of Afro beats. At the same time, we are excited to launch our first imprint deal with Jonzing World” Don Jazzy said this during a press briefing.
On 19 October 2019, Rema won Next Rated and was nominated for Viewer’s Choice at the 13th edition of The Headies. On 12 January 2020 he received the Souncity mvp for best new artist.
