Musician Jon Batiste, bandleader of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” headed a musical march of George Floyd protesters through the Big Apple streets over the weekend.
“Look what we’re doing. We’re using music to bring people together of all races, of all genders for black lives,” Batiste told CNN’s Bill Weir on Saturday.
Video showed Batiste jamming with a group of musicians Saturday as they marched with crowds from Union Square.
“We’ve been marching for hours. This is something that even… we saw the police escorting us. We saw people from all walks of life joining us,” he told Weir.
The march — dubbed “We Are: A Peaceful Protest” — was one of many across the five boroughs throughout the weekend for Floyd, who died in Minneapolis after a white cop, Derek Chauvin, pressed his knee into his neck for several minutes.
